Alonso has once again taken part in the launch of the new edition of the Master’s Degree in Continuing Professional Development in Maritime Law and Economic and Strategic Management of Maritime and Port Enterprises at the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV). This partnership reaches a particularly significant milestone in the 2026–2027 academic year: the launch of the 10th Alonso Grant. Over the past decade, the corporation has maintained close ties with specialist logistics training, helping to provide students with the knowledge, experience and business realities of a sector undergoing constant transformation.

The Master’s programme offers an interdisciplinary perspective on the maritime and port sector from legal, business and strategic perspectives. It combines academic study with practical sessions, including visits to the Intersagunto Terminales port terminal, the Setemar logistics hub, the Pobla Marina marina and Alonso’s corporate headquarters. Upon completion of the programme, students will be eligible for professional work placements.

The challenges faced by a sector that connects the world

During the launch event, Jorge Alonso, president and CEO of Grupo Alonso, shared with the students some of the key insights needed to understand the current international maritime landscape. Guided by the corporation’s philosophy – “Clean air, blue seas and fertile land” – he addressed issues relating to the evolution of trade, sustainability and competitiveness in an increasingly demanding global context.

“The sea connects the world,” he emphasised during his speech. This reality means that future professionals must tackle new challenges with determination and the ability to adapt. In this regard, he encouraged the students by reminding them that “it takes commitment and the ability to change certain current situations”, whilst keeping in mind the need to move towards a sector that is both competitive and sustainable.

One of the most moving moments was the speech given by Julio Lacal Aliaga and Ana Isabel Ruiz Martínez, winners of the latest Alonso Grant. Both shared their educational experiences with the new students and encouraged them to make the most of the career opportunities offered by the postgraduate programme. Their testimonies perfectly reflected one of the objectives behind the creation of the Alonso Grant: to recognise students’ hard work and talent and to support their transition into the world of work.

At the end of the 2026–2027 Master’s programme, the 10th Alonso Grant will be awarded to the most outstanding student in the group. The new call for applications will continue an initiative which, year after year, recognises the talent and hard work of those embarking on their professional careers.

Commitment toward education and the younger generation

This initiative forms part of Alonso’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Plan, which sets out several lines of action aimed at making a positive impact on society, particularly amongst young people. Among the initiatives launched each year are activities supporting education, training and talent development, alongside other initiatives in the social, sporting and environmental spheres. In this way, Alonso reinforces its commitment to fostering new opportunities and supporting the younger generations in their development.
