CEFSA adds a new electric locomotive to strengthen its operational capacity and intermodal offering
CEFSA (Compañía Europea Ferroviaria) continues to strengthen its commitment to more efficient and sustainable rail freight transport with the addition of a new EURO6000 locomotive. This new unit represents a further step in its fleet modernization strategy and in the connection of key infrastructures for international trade. It is a latest-generation electric model manufactured in Valencia that incorporates advanced technology to improve its operational capacity and the reliability of rail connections.
The EURO6000 locomotive stands out for incorporating the latest technological and safety systems in the railway sector, improving operational reliability and freight transport efficiency. With this addition, the company continues to progressively renew a fleet currently composed of 32 electric locomotives.
Greater capacity, efficiency, and safety
The new equipment will increase traction capacity and optimize operations, improving the integration of rail transport within the global logistics chain. In recent years, CEFSA has experienced growth in the rail transport of vehicles, an activity it will continue to promote alongside the development of new traffic flows linked to intermodal transport and the steel sector, thus consolidating an increasingly diversified offering adapted to the needs of the industrial sector.
Alonso, a strategic ally in the sector
Since 2024, CEFSA has been part of the Alonso Logistics Area, a business holding with a presence in all links of the supply chain with offices across five continents. Its incorporation provided a strategic boost to continue expanding its operational capacity, strengthen its railway services, and advance towards a more sustainable freight transport model.
The Alonso holding’s commitment to intermodality in freight transport is reflected in the Global Logistics Plan. A strategic initiative launched over a decade ago that seeks to connect the main population centers of the Iberian Peninsula with local traffic by train, while simultaneously connecting major ports with international traffic. All this is achieved through rail, supported by the network of intermodal logistics platforms developed by Grupo Alonso.
This initiative represents a firm commitment to promoting intermodality in freight transport, favoring the efficient combination of different transport modes and promoting more agile distribution, especially in major urban centers and areas of high logistics congestion. Ultimately, the Global Logistics Plan contributes to moving towards a more efficient model.
