Brazil, with a strong port system
With 203 million citizens, Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world in terms of land area, accounting for 47% of the total land area of South America. With a long coastline and an extensive network of inland waterways, the country’s ports are the main gateway for exports and imports. Of all these, Santos stands out as the leader of the Brazilian port system and in 2023 it handled 173 million tonnes.
In addition, the forthcoming entry into force of the trade agreement between Mercosur, of which it is a member, and the European Union will deepen its trade flows with these markets of interest.
Spain, Latin America’s main trading partner
