ALONSO GROUP REINFORCES ITS COMMITMENT TO YOUNG TALENT IN THE VI MASTER IN MARITIME LAW OF THE UCV
Alonso Group continues to promote integral education and young talent through the sponsorship of the Master of Maritime Law of the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV). This postgraduate course, which is now in its sixth year, has consolidated itself as a key training tool to meet the challenges of a sector in constant evolution and which demands increasingly specialised professionals. The programme began in October and will end in July 2020.
The master’s degree is aimed at recent university graduates interested in joining the logistics-port sector as well as professionals seeking to advance in their careers. In total there are about thirty students enrolled who will receive theory training, accompanied by case studies, as well as master classes and complementary activities. This year registration applications have almost doubled over the previous year.
During the opening session, Jorge Alonso, Alonso Group’s president and CEO, highlighted “the impact of the logistics-port sector at an economic level” and stressed that “the sea is key to understanding today’s world”. Alonso also conveyed to the young students “the need for professionals trained and prepared for a sector that is changing rapidly in recent years”.
Alonso Group’s Involvement in the Master’s Degree
Alonso Group’s involvement in the Master of Maritime Law involves two areas. Firstly, by providing the know-how of its directors, who form part of the teaching staff, and will give theoretical and practical classes throughout the programme. In this way the students will be able to obtain an updated vision on the day to day of a logistic company.
Secondly, the Master includes different practical activities and visits to some of the facilities and logistics platforms that Alonso Group manages throughout the Peninsula. For example, Intersagunto Terminals, the Setemar logistics platform or Pobla Marina.
Award for Academic Excellence: Alonso Scholarship
In addition, during the opening ceremony, Jorge Alonso presented the II Alonso Scholarship to Héctor Aparicio, a student who is already enjoying his employment contract at Operplus, a global logistics operator that is part of Alonso Group.
This year the collaboration agreement between Alonso Group and the UCV on the call for the III Alonso Scholarship has been renewed. This initiative seeks to encourage academic excellence and offers an employment contract in one of the companies of the group to students who have stood out significantly. It evaluates the level of use of the course, their skills or potential in professional development.
