Intersagunto receives ISO 50001 certification on energy efficiency

The maritime terminal located in the Port of Sagunto has been operating since the end of December under the ISO 50001 certification on energy efficiency. In just one year the energy consumption has been reduced by 5% and the goal is to reach 2018 with a reduction of more than 15%.

On December 23, Intersagunto, the multi-purpose maritime terminal operated by Alonso Group, received the ISO 50001 energy efficiency certificate. It thus becomes one of the few in Spain to comply with this rigorous standard, which implies, among other things, firm commitment to reducing the CO2 footprint per ton transported.

The main objective of ISO 50001 is to prove that an organization works constantly and effectively in improving its energy efficiency. For this, a thorough audit is carried out in which both the comprehensive energy saving plan and the elements of analysis and the actions carried out to correct any deviation or anomaly are verified.

Intersagunto reduces carbon footprint

For several months Intersagunto has been working to reduce energy consumption in all processes with the aim of offering its customers a service with the least impact in terms of CO2 emissions.

This process, which has involved all of the company’s personnel, has been based on the implementation of a network analyzer system that allows to know the energy consumption of the entire terminal in real time by sector. All these data are processed by a computer software that allows to detect and rectify any type of incidence in a minimum time.

Thus, since the beginning of the implementation of these new energy efficiency systems, energy consumption has been reduced by 5% and it is expected to reach 15% over the next three years.

A pioneering terminal

This new step confirms the position of Intersagunto as one of the most advanced maritime terminals in the Iberian Peninsula in terms of safety and efficiency.

The ISO 50001 certificate that Intersagunto just received joins previous ones such as ISO 9001 in Quality or ISO 14001 on Environment. It is also the only maritime terminal of these characteristics of the Region of Valencia that has the AEO seal, which identifies it as an Authorized Economic Operator.
