Alonso Group becomes a shareholder of the railway company CEFSA to strengthen its commitment to the train

The Alonso holding company is growing and strengthening its logistics division by taking a majority shareholding in a new brand specialising in the railway sector. It is CEFSA (Compañía Europea Ferroviaria) dedicated to the transport of goods by train. With this new step, Alonso Group once again strengthens its railway business in the Iberian Peninsula by expanding its operational capacity and services in a sector closely linked to the sustainable transport of goods.
CEFSA currently has a team with extensive experience, specialisation and training. A highly valuable asset that will enhance the quality and efficiency of the services offered by Alonso Group’s logistics division in the railway sector. An operation in which the management and operational headed by Gregorio Urdillo, the company’s current CEO, is maintained. In a constantly competitive environment, “this new step promotes the modernisation and sustainability of the complete logistics services offered by our holding”, according to Alonso Group management.
A railway company based in Madrid
Specialised in rail freight transport, CEFSA currently has a fleet of 29 locomotives and a fleet of 81 state-of-the-art 40-foot double wagons.
CEFSA’s commercial offer provides customised solutions for all industries and includes the provision of locomotives, driving staff, coordination with origin/destination terminals and the management of train paths. The company, now owned by Alonso Group, is the leader in the Valencia-Madrid-Valencia corridor, running more than 20 trains a week, in addition to connections between key logistics points and ports of general interest.
The company, characterised by its constant updating and training, organises all its operations through the Rail Cube railway management system, which allows the means and resources of each route to be monitored at all times. Alonso holding company’s commitment to intermodality in freight transport is materialised in the Global Logistics Plan. A strategic initiative started more than a decade ago, which seeks to connect the main points of maritime traffic on the Iberian Peninsula through the use of rail, with advanced logistics platforms developed by the Alonso Group. This plan is also projected internationally by connecting with the main international railways.
