The invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, is leaving a heavy trail of pain, destruction and poverty across the country. One of the NGOs that has been involved in helping the population since the beginning of the conflict has been AGA- Ucraína. Alonso Group has once again collaborated with the social organisation at a time when the conflict seems more forgotten than ever due to the fact that current affairs are concentrated in other parts of the world.

As on the first occasion, Alonso Group‘s contribution has been channelled into the U+Help programme, which provides emergency medical care and rehabilitation for those injured by mine explosives, both military and civilian. According to estimates by the AGA-Ucraína, more than 50% of those injured by this type of ammunition suffer concussions and, in many cases, hearing loss.

Hearing aid fitting, the basis of the U+Help programme, gives people the opportunity to return to their normal life or to service in the armed forces. The initiative also trains medical staff at Ukrainian and foreign partner clinics with the participation of international specialists. In the last six months, more than 800 hearing aids have been fitted thanks to this initiative. Some of the Ukrainian cities where assistance is being provided include Kherson, Ternopil, Lviv, Odesa, Dnipro, Rivne, Kyiv, Sumy o Zaporizhia.

Plans for this year

There are currently 1.100 pending requests for assistance in the field of prosthetics and counting. The war does not stop with its devastating effects. According to AGA- Ucraína‘s calculations, an average of 150 devices are being fitted every month, and by the end of the year, 1.800 people could be fitted with a prosthesis thanks to the U+Help programme. “Our aim is to give a person who has faced this problem a full life back”, the social organisation explains. In addition to this cause, the NGO, which was set up after the Russian invasion of the country, works to provide an immediate response to the needs of people displaced by the war, the reception of refugees in Spain and advises on international protection.

With this new initiative, Alonso Group once again demonstrates its ongoing involvement in important social issues. Another example of its growing awareness of issues that have an impact on the global community. This type of action is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) area of the holding company, where every year different initiatives (social, environmental or sporting, among others) that have a real impact on society are promoted.
