Alonso Forwarding Panama, in 9th position in the ranking of freight forwarders in the Caribbean country
2024 has been a year of many challenges for our office in Panama. Social, political, economic and environmental problems, to which must be added the severe water crisis in the Panama Canal. An infrastructure that depends on a system of artificial lakes, especially Lake Gatun, to maintain the water level necessary for the transit of ships. In fact, the country has experienced recurrent droughts, due to climatic changes and alterations in rainfall patterns, which has put the canal’s operation at risk. As you know, restrictions on navigation have had to be implemented, such as reducing the number of ships that can transit daily.
On the other hand, port congestion in Panama has been another of the key challenges we face in the country. The canal has a global relevance and is one of the main transit routes for goods in international trade. However, despite its importance, Panamanian ports have experienced various congestion problems due to internal and external factors, such as the increase in maritime traffic, the growth of global trade, limitations in port infrastructure or the insufficient capacity of terminals to process containers quickly. These delays cause vessels to wait longer in ports, resulting in congestion and higher operating costs.
Position in a benchmark ranking
We believe that we are all facing similar situations in offices around the world. What is important is how we face these challenges and find opportunities. From the Alonso Forwarding Panama team we have taken key steps, with creativity and innovation, improving our processes to offer high value logistics solutions to our customers. Thanks to these efforts we have achieved significant increases in volumes, turnover and profits, which has allowed us to position ourselves as number 9 among the best freight forwarders in Panama.
We have also managed to stand out as the market leader in the liquid bulk market in flexitanks and as the leading exporter of frozen fish and shrimp. At the same time, we continue to grow in our other business verticals, allowing us to differentiate ourselves and add real value to our customers.

All this is not the result of chance. It is due to the efforts of an exceptional team of professionals. Today, after two years, we are 26 people in Panama, distributed in our three offices: Panama City, Colon Free Zone and Chiriqui. Each one focused on contributing to our continued growth. Moreover, this success would not have been possible without the unlimited support of Alonso Group: from the commercial team and operations executives to the administrative staff.
