Peru is facing a period of major investment in strategic infrastructure for the country

This month Alonso Forwarding Peru colleagues, with offices in Lima and Callao, are the protagonists of the section in which we try to get a little closer to our different branchs in the world. In the chronicle, they highlight the strong period of investment in Peru’s infrastructures, which will mean the start-up of the port of Chancay, located 80 kilometres north of Lima. They also highlight the potential of the future Jorge Chavez airport, which will be ready in December in the Peruvian capital.

The Peruvian port of Chancay to be located in the north of the country
From Alonso Forwarding Peru we believe that the mega-port of Chancay, located 80 kilometres north of Lima, in the province of Huaral, will become the starting point for Peruvian exports to South East Asia. It will undoubtedly open up new trade opportunities for us. It will also relieve the national port traffic and allow Peru to become a regional power for international trade. A hub for redistributing cargo from countries such as Chile, Ecuador or Colombia. The port of Chancay will be able to receive ships of up to 18,000 TEUs.
The construction of the new terminal, with an investment of 1.3 billion dollars in its first stage, will reduce the total estimated travel time of ships to Southeast Asia to 25 days, ten days less than usual. This will favour trade with countries such as China, Japan and South Korea.
Boosting perishable products

According to figures from the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT), the ports of Ilo, Salaverry, Callao, Paita and Pisco currently move around 85% of the total annual maritime cargo of Peruvian exports. With the coming into operation of the port of Chancay, much of the maritime cargo exported from Peru to South East Asia will go through this port. This will be particularly noticeable in the case of perishable products due to the shorter transit times. This is great news for the entire Alonso Forwarding Peru team, as the increase in connectivity in the country will also improve trade flows with neighbouring countries such as Brazil, Chile or Ecuador.

In other matters, in order to reinforce security and detect illegal actions, Chancay will have a system of scanners (OCR portals) that will help to check 100% of the containers entering the port complex. A commitment to maximum protection following the recent agreements with the US Embassy.

The new Jorge Chávez airport

The new Jorge Chávez airport, located in the capital Lima, will be operational as of 18 December. The state of the works, which are strategic for the country and three times the size of the current airport, is currently at around 80%. Once operational, it will have the capacity to handle 30 million passengers a year, positioning it as a key hub in the region. It will also become the first airport city in South America as it will combine airport activities with logistics, commercial, transport and tourism activities. Undoubtedly a great opportunity for our team to increase air import and export services

In short, a time of great splendour for our country, which we trust will be a new revulsive to continue growing and increasing our reach and potential. Thank you very much.
