Alonso Group achieves record contributions in its Christmas charity campaigns

The charity Christmas campaigns launched by Alonso Group this year have far exceeded expectations. A help that, through the different companies that make up the holding, and with the involvement of all the workers, aimed to mitigate the serious effects that the pandemic has had on hundreds of families. Solidarity is always necessary but in times of COVID-19 it becomes essential.
With these charitable initiatives, Alonso Group has once again set an example of effort, willingness and dedication to others, as it has collaborated with up to five NGOs in different areas. Specifically, they are local (Casa de la Caridad de Valencia), national (The Food Bank and Red Cross) and international (Doctors Without Borders and Unicef).
The Food Bank, solidarity aid in the year of the pandemic
A total of 1,500 kilos of basic necessities. This is the record figure that Alonso Group’s employees have managed to collect this year for delivery to the Valencia Food Bank. In addition, more contributions have been made to other food banks in different Spanish provinces, such as Algeciras, through physical deliveries of products or online financial contributions. A collaboration in capital letters, and a great source of joy, for all those people who are part of Alonso Group who have seen how their solidarity and dedication have materialised at such a special time as Christmas.
Casa de la Caridad, the centenary protection house in Valencia
One of the new features of Alonso Group’s charity campaigns this year has been its collaboration with the Casa de la Caridad in Valencia, a non-profit institution that is responsible for covering the needs of the most disadvantaged people. The doors of this NGO are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Alonso Group’s important economic contribution will be used to pay for the day-to-day running of the association, which has nursery schools, a soup kitchen, shelters and delivers food kits to the needy. Specifically, thanks to this aid, it will be possible to pay for 2,000 food rations, pay for 166 nights at home for homeless people or deliver “shopping carts” for 166 families.
Doctors Without Borders, the international NGO with a global reach
Yemen has been plagued by a bloody civil war for five years. The continuing fighting has left the country on the brink of a devastating famine affecting up to 14 million Yemenis. It is now one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world, despite being a ‘forgotten war’ because of the lack of attention it receives. In 2019 Alonso Group has already collaborated with Doctors without Borders for its charity activities in the country, and in 2020, where medical cooperation is more necessary than ever, it will once again support this global NGO to combat the hard effects of the conflict.
UNICEF, the child support network
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which strives to improve the quality of life of children and their families, has been another destination for Alonso Group’s aid at international level. Specifically, this item will cover campaigns to vaccinate children against such common diseases as measles, polio, tuberculosis, diphtheria and tetanus in developing countries.
UNICEF is the world’s largest supplier of vaccines (2.43 billion doses in 2019) and part of GAVI, the Global Alliance for Vaccines, which in recent years has provided vaccines for more than 760 million children and prevented more than 13 million deaths. Alongside immunisation, UNICEF works continuously to strengthen countries health systems, especially in extreme circumstances such as the current pandemic.
Red Cross, for the benefit of the most disadvantaged
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Red Cross has focused on those groups most affected by the effects of COVID-19. Currently the NGO offers accommodation and food bags to homeless people, migrants or other groups at risk of social exclusion in our country. Aware of this situation, the holding company has made an economic contribution to this organisation in order to avoid situations of greater vulnerability and lack of protection.
Without a doubt, this is a set of actions of which we can feel very proud and in which we have tried not to leave anyone indifferent or behind. The solidarity campaigns are part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) area of Alonso Group, where, every year, different activities are organised with the firm commitment to help those groups that are most disadvantaged or in need in society. In the year 2020, due to the special circumstances in which it has been carried out, it has become essential to increase this aid.
