New rail service links Can Tunis with the Polish city of Swarzedz

The railway terminal managed by Setemar in Can Tunis (Barcelona) is now accepting a new freight line to Swarzedz (Poland). This service has begun with two weekly rotations: departures from Barcelona to Poland on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with arrivals in Barcelona on Mondays and Fridays. However, depending on the needs of the service, this could be increased to five weekly rotations.

The route is suitable for the transport of containers and semi-trailers and can therefore be adapted to the needs of any type of industry or production sector. In fact, each of the multi-customer trains has a capacity for a total of 35 intermodal transport units (UTIS), whether containers or P400 semi-trailers. A new offer from Can Tunis with a direct UIC gauge connection between the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe. This type of line makes it possible to combine the versatility of road transport with the efficiency, safety and punctuality offered by the railway.

Can Tunis, a strategic and developing terminal

The start-up of the service with Poland is yet another example of the growth that Can Tunis has been experiencing in recent years, with the start-up of several rail motorways linking the Iberian Peninsula with different points in Europe. In addition, the terminal could welcome new projects during the first quarter of 2025 and, therefore, considerably increase its traffic. This development will also have a positive impact on the environment, as rail transport significantly reduces CO2 emissions and road congestion. A measure that contributes to more sustainable and efficient logistics, one of the main priorities of Alonso Group‘s logistics division.

The Alonso Group’s commitment to rail transport

Under the premise of offering its customers and stakeholders the greatest possible number of CO2-free kilometres, Alonso holding company has been developing its Global Logistics Plan for years , a commitment to intermodality in transport. This project has been recognised as being of strategic interest and has been co-financed by the European Union through the NextGeneration Funds. The Global Logistics Plan aims to connect the hubs of maritime freight traffic on the Iberian Peninsula, through multi-customer and multi-product trains, with high reliability and frequency between the Alonso Group‘s own logistics centres. This is a firm commitment by the logistics division of the holding company to divert road traffic to rail.
