Personal values, innovation and sustainability are essential part of Alonso Group logistics

“The first thing a company needs is people with values. If we lose our values, we lose our way”. Alonso Group president and CEO, Jorge Alonso, was this categorical at the conference on innovation and sustainability in the logistics sector at the headquarters of the Valenciaport Foundation. The event brought together leading professionals and experts to analyse and discuss the present and future of an industry, logistics, where the geopolitical context, emerging technologies and environmental sustainability are increasingly present in decision-making.
Alonso explained that “geopolitics sets the pace of life. It is the philosopher’s stone. We must be agile to offer the best services to our customers. It is important to make a correct reading of the situation and, from there, to give quick responses so as not to make mistakes in the basis of our business”. In this sense, he referred to the constant changes in the industry and the speed at which they are taking place, “that’s why it’s so exciting”, he said.
Likewise, Alonso Group president and CEO also referred to digitalisation, a cornerstone of the business corporation due to its presence on five continents and a fundamental axis in business development. “We seek digitalisation to communicate with our customers and suppliers, but we cannot lose our values or common sense, which is the least common of the senses. The first thing a company needs is people with values. If we lose our values, we will lose our way,” he said. In this sense, it is important to highlight how the adaptation of new technologies and digital platforms must take into account business ethics, respect for customers and suppliers, as well as a commitment to quality and service. “On the road to growth, we must always seek cooperation and coherence,” he stressed.
Alonso Group’s real commitment to decarbonisation
The implementation of technological innovations must go hand in hand with strategies to reduce carbon emissions in the present and, above all, in the future. In this regard, Jorge Alonso stressed the importance of cooperation and collaboration between administrations in this area. “A change in the tax system is necessary, lowering taxes for decarbonisation. We have to decarbonise by lowering costs for customers”.
He also advanced that Alonso Group will be able to offer carbon dioxide-free services in 2040, something that was initially planned for 2035. “It is a practice that requires heavy investment”. In this context, Alonso Group president and CEO pointed out that in terms of sustainability, decarbonisation of the economy and preservation of the planet “we need the complicity of the administration and collaboration between companies”. In this sense, he concluded that we must find the space to both collaborate and compete” if we want to ensure a global future together.
It should be remembered that the Alonso Group three business areas, Logistics, Energy and Infrastructures, Leisure-Services, are strongly committed to promoting energy efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions and implementing sustainable practices in all its operations and projects.
Particularly noteworthy in the logistics area of the holding company is the implementation of the Global Logistics Plan. An ambitious project that is still underway and which aims to connect the nerve centres of maritime freight traffic on the Iberian Peninsula through multi-customer and multi-product trains with high reliability and frequency between the logistics platforms themselves. A commitment to intermodality and the diversion of road traffic that has been recognised as being of strategic interest by the European Commission and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Next Generation EU Funds.
