Caserío Paluato is a small rural town in the municipality of Galapa, in the Caribbean area of Colombia. From the Microbibliotecas Association have been compiling the necessary material that allows the construction of a library that becomes a pole of culture and education for this small community.

Once the cargo of books, furniture and school material has been collected, the NGO has had to face the delicate task of getting everything collected from Madrid to its final destination in Colombia, 8000 kilometers away. To this end, the NGO decided to go to Disbroquer, a freight forwarder integrated in the Alonso Group, an expert in international transport.

A particularly delicate solidarity operation

Disbroquer’s team was in charge of orienting the association in each of the processes necessary to make a shipment of these characteristics, from the choice of the container suitable for the transport (a 20′ container) until the completion of the different documents.

As Francisco Pérez, of the Disbroquer Commercial Department explains, “when dealing with material from a charitable donation destined for another country, a series of procedures different from those of conventional cargo must be followed. An error in this step could prevent the entry of the cargo in Colombia or force them to pay a very high amount for considering it commercial merchandise.

Teamwork Benefits

At this point it is where the synergies between the different companies of the Alonso Group have brought an enormous advantage to work in a coordinated way. Alonso Forwarding Colombia will be in charge of supervising the landing of the container upon its arrival at the port of Barranquilla and coordinate the subsequent transfer by land to its final destination.

The material, which left Spain on July 14, is expected to arrive in Colombia in early August. In this way, it is hoped to start during the summer the creation of this micro-library, which aspires to be a new source of opportunities for the inhabitants of this rural area of the Colombian jungle.
